Common Questions

These answers apply to all current Evercade devices (EXP-R, VS-R, Alpha, Super Pocket).

Are all Evercade cartridges compatible with all devices?
Yes — all Evercade cartridges (red console, purple arcade, blue home computer) work on all Evercade systems running the latest firmware. Save games are cross-compatible and stored on the cartridge itself, so a save on one device works on another.

How do I update my firmware?
All current Evercade devices update over Wi-Fi. Go to Settings → System → Install Update. The device will notify you automatically when a new update is available. Note: Evercade devices only support 2.4GHz secure (password-protected) Wi-Fi — 5GHz and open/unsecured networks are not supported.

Can I hot-swap cartridges without turning the device off?
Yes — all current devices support hot-swapping. Always quit your current game first to protect saved data before removing a cartridge.

How do I save my game?
Most games support Evercade’s save state system. Press the Menu button during gameplay and select Quick Save (slot 1) or Save to choose a slot. Always quit the game properly before powering off. Save states are stored on the cartridge.

What does the Secret Menu do?
The Secret Menu lets you enter codes to unlock hidden games and extras. See our VS Secrets & Easter Eggs page for a full list of known codes and hidden games.

What do the cartridge colours mean?
Red cases = console games (NES, SNES, Mega Drive, etc.). Purple cases = arcade games. Blue cases = home computer games (C64, Amiga, etc.). All colours work on all devices.

My cartridge is not showing up — what do I do?
Check the cartridge contacts for debris and clean if needed. Remove and reinsert the cartridge, or try the other slot if your device has two. Restart the device with the cartridge inserted. If the problem persists, contact [email protected].

How long is the warranty?
12 months from date of purchase for Blaze devices. Check the Evercade documents and warranties page for full details.

Cartridge Help

For issues specific to a cartridge — games not loading, save data problems, or compatibility questions — see the official Evercade Cartridge Support page.

Some cartridges have entered Legacy status — this means Blaze’s licence to manufacture them has expired and no new stock will be produced. They still work perfectly on all Evercade devices. See the Legacy Cartridges page for the full list and where to buy them second-hand.

Community & Discord

The Evercade community is active and helpful. The official Discord server is the best place to get quick answers from other owners and occasionally from Blaze staff.

Tips & Hidden Features

Button test / debug screen (original Evercade Handheld only)
Start your Evercade without launching any game, then hold X + Y + left shoulder + right shoulder simultaneously. It may take a couple of attempts. You should see a hidden test screen and hear music — useful for checking whether all buttons are registering correctly.

Hidden games and secret codes
All Evercade devices have a Secret Menu accessible from the main menu. Entering the right codes unlocks hidden games. See the full list on our VS Secrets & Easter Eggs page.
